You need to find out someone’s IP address and all you have is their phone number? Then we need to make one thing clear: It is not possible to find out an IP address from a phone number alone. IP addresses and phone numbers run on different systems and are managed by different organizations.
Differences Between Phone Number and IP Address
To give you a little more insight, let’s look at the differences between a phone number and an IP address.
- System structures: Phone numbers are part of the telecommunications system, while IP addresses are part of the internet network system. So there is no crossing of paths between the two.
- Privacy and Legal Status: In order to obtain a person’s IP address from their phone number, you need a valid warrant or court order. Otherwise it is a criminal offense. Such information is protected by privacy laws in many countries.
- IP Addresses May Change: If the IP addresses assigned to devices are not static, they change frequently.
How to Find Someone Else’s IP Address via Email?
Nobody will tell you this is my IP address. However, if you want to find out someone’s IP address, you can do it with an email.
In the example below we will use Gmail. Note that for this method to work, you need to receive an email from Gmail. Now let’s move on to what you need to do:
- Open the email address that the person whose IP address you want to get has sent you via Gmail.
- On the right side of the page, next to the ‘reply’ icon, select the three dots (more options).
- Open the ellipsis and click on ‘show original’. After clicking, a new tab will open showing the email headers.
- On the email headers page, scroll down and look for ‘received from code’. This code will also contain the IP address you are looking for.
- Step 1: Open the Google Admin Toolbox from the link there.
- Step 2: Click on the link that says Message Header at the bottom left under Investigating mail-related issues.
- Step 3: Click on ‘show original’ again, as mentioned in the title above. Then tap on the bottom right where it says ‘Copy to clipboard’ and copy the information.
- Step 4: Paste this copied information into the space above the Google Admin Toolbox Message Header where it says “ANALYZE UPPER SHADOW”.
- Step 5: Then click on the link that says ANALYZE ABOVE COPY.
Find Someone Else’s IP Address with a Link
Did you know that you can find anyone’s IP address using a share link? You can easily get someone’s IP address by sending them a clickable link. There are a few steps you need to take for this. Let’s take a look at what they are:
- Step 1: Set a link for the person whose IP address you want to know to click on.
- Step 2: Before sending the link, share it with a tool like an IP logger or IP generator.
- Step 3: Let’s use Grabify for example. Now open this website in a different tab.
- Step 4: Paste that URL that you think the person might click on into the Grabify dialog box and click ‘create URL’.
- Step 5: When you do this, you will shorten the long URL structure as in Bitly. Then have the person whose IP address you want to find click on that URL.
- Step 6: Wait for the moment when the user clicks on your link. For this reason, you will need to refresh the Grabify site frequently. When they click on the link you sent, the IP address will appear on Grabify’s screen.
Claim Legally
Where legal proceedings are involved, authorities may request telecom companies or ISPs to associate an IP address with a phone number as part of an investigation.
This process is governed by a strictly legal process and typically requires a court order.
Is it Illegal to Track an IP Address?
IP address tracking is legal because the tracking tools are licensed. Authorities make use of IP trackers because they catch criminals using this technique.
